ShelterWind Launches with all-wind and hail deductible buyback insurance policy

October 15, 2025

Led by insurance industry leader Simon Hudson, ShelterWind offers brokers and agents a proactive, positive solution to ease the financial burden on property owners in wind-exposed areas.

ShelterWind, a program administrator providing supplemental insurance to ease the claims process for property owners, launches today with an all-wind and hail deductible buyback insurance policy. The new standalone coverage, tailored for middle market and high-value homeowners with structural values up to $50 million, is backed by Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s.

ShelterWind’s all-wind and hail deductible buyback insurance policy helps property owners significantly reduce the out-of-pocket deductible they must pay before their primary insurance covers claims from wind-related events, including hurricanes, named storms, and hail. This excess follow form policy is available in all 50 states but is optimal in the 18 coastal, wind-exposed states from Texas to Maine. It supports primary overlying residential and commercial coverages and includes both occurrence and aggregate coverage limits, allowing coverage for multiple wind-related events within a policy term.

Part of the MISSION portfolio of programs, ShelterWind was founded by Simon Hudson in collaboration with Joe Braunstein, both dynamic and visionary insurance leaders with a proven track record in developing innovative products and scaling startups to established enterprises.

“The personal lines insurance market is experiencing significant disruption, driven by rising natural disaster risks and mounting pressure to adequately serve property owners in weather-exposed regions,” said Hudson, CEO of ShelterWind. “As severe weather events become more frequent and intense, this product offers brokers and agents a proactive solution to ease the financial burden on property owners by reducing the cost of deductibles and providing fast access to funds to rebuild and restore.”

“What makes this product uniquely valuable in today’s market is that it isn’t limited to hurricane or named storm coverage; it protects against all major wind and hail exposures, including convective storms, across the country,” said Braunstein, Transactional Underwriter at ShelterWind.

Plaisance Underwriters’ SAM vendor coverage is designed to protect institutions and their vendors. Available in all 50 states, the policy offers $250,000 to $1,000,000 limits per vendor.

The policy fills a frequent gap in coverage for large institutions: SAM coverage for third-party vendors and vendors’ employees. Plaisance Underwriters’ offering includes vendors as additional insureds attached to the policy.
